In a scathing rebuke that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Ondo State, Peter Moleye has publicly lambasted Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, for what he perceives as an attempt to usurp credit for the hard-won victories of local leaders and youths in the state.
The controversy erupted when Tompolo, a controversial figure in the Niger Delta region known for human right abuses, reportedly promised President Bola Tinubu a rally of ten million youths in Ondo State. This move, according to Moleye, is a thinly veiled attempt by Tompolo to secure exclusive rights to lucrative pipeline contracts in the region.
Moleye, visibly agitated during his address to local media, emphasized that Ondo State has no political crisis and that President Tinubu already enjoys strong support in the area. "If Tompolo wants to promise Tinubu ten million votes, he should go to Delta State and do it, not Ondo State," Moleye declared, his voice resonating with indignation.
Moleye went on to highlight the pivotal role played by Ondo State residents in Tinubu's 2023 electoral victory, pointedly asking, "Where was Tompolo then?" Moleye insisted that Ondo State has its own capable leaders, including figures like High Chief Bibopere known as Shoot Aside, Otelo others, who successfully rallied support for Tinubu without external intervention.
In a direct message to Tompolo, Moleye advised him to confine his activities to Delta State and refrain from interfering in Ondo's affairs. "We are strong and ready to stop anyone who comes to do nonsense," he warned, hinting at potential confrontations if Tompolo persists in his alleged encroachment.
The controversy has brought to the fore issues of resource control and political influence in Nigeria's oil-rich regions. Moleye's impassioned plea to President Tinubu to distribute pipeline contracts among local leaders in various states, rather than concentrating them in Tompolo's hands, underscores the complex dynamics at play.
As tensions simmer, all eyes are now on President Tinubu and his administration's response to this unfolding drama. The resolution of this conflict could have far-reaching implications for political alliances and economic distribution in Nigeria's volatile Niger Delta region.
